Celtic Prayer--The Heavenly Banquet

Celtic Christianity has been called "Christianity intoxicated." Celtic Christianity kept the spirit of the Irish people. Here is one called:

The Heavenly Banquet

I would like to have the men of Heaven
In my own house:
With vats of good cheer
Laid out for them.

I would like to have the three Marys,
their fame is so great.
I would like people
From every corner of Heaven.

I would like them to be cheerful
In their drinking,
I would like to hav Jesus too
Here amongst them.

I would like a great lake of beer
For the King of Kings,
I would like to be watching heaven's family
Drinking it through all eternity.

Christianity did not take out the winking eye, playful spirit and story-stretching habits of the Celts. Theirs is a celebratory faith. (Of course then again, this poem may have been copied from a wall in an Irish pub).

Perhaps my favorite place in Ireland, this building is located on the Dingle peninsula, in County Kerry. This location was popularized by "Ryan's Daughter" filmed nearby in 1969 and the Tom Cruise movie "Far And Away". This structure, known as the Gallarus Oratory would have been a church. No mortar was used, but it's water tight. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallarus_Oratory
